
• Beauty icon Elizabeth Taylor died this morning at age 79. The actress launched one of the first and still successful celebrity fragrance lines after her own name. Some questioned Taylor’s style, as she often donned large, voluminous dresses to cover her full-bodied frame, but she will be remembered as one of the loveliest women from the world of the 50s and 60s. • H&M has confirmed Gisele Bundchen too sexy for the Middle East. The retailer was forced to Photoshop extra fabric and garments on the Brazilian born model to enhance her modesty. (Telegraph)
• More retailers are growing their plus-size collections, as demand for size 18 and above has increased. One-fourth of women’s clothing sold in the U.K. this year will be plus-sized, and sales is projected to expand six percent. (Independent)
• PPR, the French luxury company that owns Gucci, YSL and Balenciaga, divulged plans yesterday to make its brands more eco-friendly. PPR will launch a Creative Sustainability Lab and begin to purchase carbon credits. (NY Mag)
• Inditex, the world’s largest retailer, plans to expand in stores and online after its latest profit post beat analysts’ expectations. The company gained 14 percent in the past quarter, arriving at $784 million in income. Inditex intends to open 500 new stores this year. (Bloomberg)
• Amidst continual losses, American Apparel is anxious to grow its business. The company has brought in Marty Staff, former CEO of Hugo Boss USA, to try and turn sales around. Staff approached American Apparel several months ago after leaving his role as CEO of JA Apparel. (WWD)
