Even though Crystal Renn has lost weight over the past year, she has never looked unhealthy, bony, as though her legs could pass for arms, or any of the other things that upset so many model-body watchers. She has candidly explained repeatedly that following her recovery from anorexia, she reintroduced exercise into her life, which caused her to shed some weight. In a new video interview on her agency Ford's blog, she addresses the outcry over her changed figure, explaining that neither pressures from the fashion industry, her agency, nor herself are responsible for the way her body looks now. "A lot of people wanted to point their finger at somebody. They wanted to find a conspiracy when there actually was none," she says.
"I feel pressure probably more than any place from the public and the media. I think by placing a title on my head — which is plus-size — and then the picture that these people have created in their mind about what plus-size actually is, I basically fail you just with that, because I couldn’t possibly live up to that," she continues. "At this point in my life I would have to have another eating disorder to live up to that expectation. I had anorexia ultimately because someone else set the standard for me and I wanted to follow it. And if I followed what the public wanted from me or what the media wants from me I would be doing the same thing — I would have a binge eating disorder."
Renn is unfortunately falling victim to the same media treatment so many lady celebs with fluctuating weight get — she can't gain or lose it without causing some sort of uproar. "You cannot tell if someone’s healthy, where they are mentally, from what’s going on on the outside, because health is different for everybody at different sizes," she adds. So can we just let her be? And if the press really needs to obsess over someone's weight, why not Prince William? If anyone's not getting his fair share of attention right now, it's that one.
