On Saturday, Kate Middleton attended a wedding with her fiancé, Prince William. There was a bride, Louise Stourton, and a groom, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, who are friends of the couple. The bride wore a gown, while the groom also wore clothes. Hopefully they danced beautiful dances together and made everyone cry with their proclamations of undying love for one another and an especially touching photo slideshow. Not that any of that matters ... because Kate wore clothes there — black ones, in fact — and is causing a sensation for her color choice (but also because, well, she left the house, zomgwtfbbq, etc.).
Royals have historically avoided black for anything but funerals, StyeList notes, and Princess Diana caused a fuss when she wore black for one of her first official appearances in 1981. But while some of the British press seem aghast at the color of Kate's outfit, including a coat by the now-sensational label Libelula, we applaud her choice. Black is pretty much always a great thing to wear, even at a white party. Besides, Kate wore purple shoes and carried a purple bag. We'd have suggested she get those items in black, ideally something that sparkles.
The Daily Mail is one British outlet that also seems aghast at Kate's figure, which is slim, as expected. You're not the bride in one of the world's most high-profile weddings in modern times and eat cake morning, noon, and night without a care. Then there's the stress of wedding planning or moving your arm wrong in a photo, the stress-induced appetite loss, and Kate's natural shape, which is thin. Yet the Daily Mail proclaims in a headline, "Hope you won't wear black on April 29, Kate ... and a few hearty meals might fill out your wedding dress." Also, the Daily Mail's post-wedding coverage.
